I wonder if dogs are aware of their own appearance.
Or do they ever ponder their own existence, like humans do?
Are they aware of their own mortality?
Do they have a grasp on the concept of death?

I think so. When we give my dog a bath he prances around showing off like a handsome boy that he is.

My dog Chevy just ponders how he will eat the sweet delicious trash as soon as we leave the house. Seriously we cant leave him for 10 minutes inside, out of his crate, before he digs in.
In a related note, this is his 1 year rescue aniversary today.

They can’t recognise their own reflection so their perception of their own appearance is likely poor. As for the pondering, possibly. Our dogs definitely have different moods and some level of feeling.

But their eyes aren’t that great.
Are they self-aware?

My Lab is aware when his food has medicine hidden in it, even when it isn’t right on top. Also, this month makes five years since I rescued him.

Are Dogs even human?

Perhaps. I tried asking them but they just sorta looked at me then walked off, then my parents asked if I was drunk. THEY’RE HIDING SOMETHING I KNOW IT.

Every time I try to take a selfie with my dog, she sees herself on the screen and then looks away from the camera. Maybe she recognizes her appearance and doesn’t like it. Like her dad.

See? Dog wins. They're smarter than we are.

My dog does the same thing except it’s just any camera. I think they just don’t like being pointed at.

Ask him after he's gone in the water:

Mine knows exactly when to look away when I try to take a picture of him.
